2.9.a Including Orange
As you said, I gave Orange a hard time, so let’s list qualities we should consider keeping as we grow.
I expected to really like Orange, so I think it needs some image rehabilitation!
OK, here goes:
Goal oriented
Uses scientific tools, objectivity, reason, and measurements to judge what works best
Uses mentors, experts, connections, and stakeholders to get ahead, solve problems, and get things done
Supports research, education, and training
Sets high expectations and standards
Supports initiatives by making investments, both public and private, more secular than spiritual
Cuts costs
Plans for financial security
Does this list help?
Yes it does. I’m not sure why Orange has caused so many problems because it is, after all, an outgrowth of The Enlightenment, one of the great eras of Human history.
Our greatest strengths can also, when overused, be our greatest weaknesses. As I suggested in our previous conversation, the new tools invented by Orange were exponentially more powerful. Combined with unprecedented population growth and the pressures that puts on our environment, infrastructure, cultures, politics, and our individual and group capacity for handling density, these tools push us closer to human limits. There is plenty blame to go around: various scientists, social critics, and even a few politicians have been warning us. Remember the percentages of people at these earlier stages. People at these stages are attuned to their own needs first (Red), following their leaders (Blue), or creating personal abundance (Orange). They are not paying attention to long-term, statistically identified, gradual change, that might happen cause problems in the future. No wonder we’re behind the 8-ball.
Look, this is just politics. People are choosing the politicians that give them what they think they want.
Right, and the level of development is a major factor driving choices. That and money that controls the range of choices, keeps us focused on left/right antics, and keeps constructive information off center stage.
Hmmm. Will the next stage help?
That’s a mixed bag. See you next week!
