I can't seem to find our discussion thread and don't remember saying that. Unfortunately, there is no good, current data about how the adult population is distributed among the stages. I estimated in this post (https://glimpsint.substack.com/i/148191763/are-you-suggesting-this-spiritual-curriculum-model-could-be-used-in-other-walks-of-life) that Blue is the largest cohort, about twice as big as Red and about 5% bigger than Orange. This kind of population research is very expensive, so the only people who track it these days seem to be consulting firms that use the information for proprietary purposes and don't share it openly.
In Integral terms, Trump has really "activated" the Red stage. Good examples are the Jan 6th, 2021, Capitol attack and the higher voting rates of low-information voters since 2016. He's also activated Blue voters by appealing to various single issue voters like those with gender and abortion concerns. Democrats have not activated enough Orange and Green voters, and if my graph in the link above is accurate, these cohorts add up to fewer voters.
Interesting, I would think that Orange is the largest cohort today followed by Blue with Green rapidly growing. Obviously, it’s hard to tell without good data on it.
As the theory would predict, the center of gravity is moving to the right over the 60 years in the graph. However, due to the cyclic activity of people aging out of the population (dying of old age) and younger, earlier-stage people keeping the earlier-stage numbers high, the overall maturity of the culture changes slowly. That is why I emphasize the need to appreciate people in all of the stages so we can work WITH them. Obviously, this is not going well these days.
I'm 74 and retired 10 years. I had the same impression that the population was more Orange and Green when I was working. I was a project manager in a Transit Agency, and those were my colleagues. In retirement, I have more contact with working-class folks with less formal education and see more who are willing to consider voting for Trump.
Gary--Thanks for the review of Integral's levels, relating to the current administration's activities and government state of affairs. I appreciated your pronoun discussion at the end--I am struggling to find a sensible personal approach to this topic, as my natural reaction is to ignore it. Not helpful...
Given what's up these days, its like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Trouble is so many of our progressive friends were alienating moderates and old liberals the last few years and look how that turned out. Sorry, I'm mad.
Thanks Gary! Do you really think that most people are Red? Or just have shadows/issues they need healed in Red?
